Privacy and cookie policy
How Growth Kompass collects, uses and protects personal data when you visit this website, get in touch or work with us.
01Who we are
This website is run by Growth Kompass Pte. Ltd., a company registered in Singapore (UEN 202645216M) and trading as Growth Kompass and Kompass (“we”, “us”), working with clients globally. Our founder, Kris Barnes, is based in Singapore. We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy.
For any privacy question or request, email kris@growthkompass.com.
02What we collect
- Details you give us: your name, email address, company, phone number and anything you include in a contact or enquiry form or email, such as your book title, publication date, goals and budget.
- Client information: contact and billing details, and the business information needed to deliver our services.
- Website usage: pages visited, device and browser type, approximate location and referring site, collected through cookies and similar technologies.
- Company identification: we use Apollo.io's website visitor tracking, which can identify the organisation a visit comes from, for example from its IP address, and may link it to publicly available business contact information.
03How we use it
- To reply to enquiries and arrange calls.
- To prepare proposals and deliver, invoice and manage our services.
- To understand how the website is used and improve it.
- To identify businesses that may be interested in our services and, where the law allows, contact them about relevant work.
- To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
We do not sell your personal data.
04Our legal basis
Under UK and EU data protection law (UK GDPR and GDPR) we rely on:
- Contract, when we need your data to provide a service you have asked for or to take steps before entering a contract.
- Legitimate interests, to run and grow our business, respond to enquiries and understand website use, balanced against your rights.
- Consent, for non-essential cookies and where we ask for it. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation, to keep financial and tax records.
Under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), we collect, use and disclose personal data with your consent, or deemed consent, for the purposes set out in this policy, or as otherwise permitted by law.
05Who we share it with
We share data only with trusted providers who help us run the business, under appropriate terms. These include:
- Squarespace (website hosting, forms and analytics)
- Google Workspace (email, calendar and documents)
- Apollo.io (website visitor tracking and business contact data)
- Xero (invoicing and accounting)
- Professional advisers such as accountants, and authorities where the law requires it
When we work on PR campaigns, we only share information about you with journalists or media outlets with your agreement.
06International transfers
We work with clients globally, including in the UK, the Netherlands, the US and Singapore, and some of our providers store data in the United States and elsewhere. Where data leaves the UK, EEA or Singapore, we rely on safeguards such as adequacy decisions, standard contractual clauses or equivalent protections required by law.
07How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not lead to work are kept for up to two years. Client records are kept for the length of our relationship and then for as long as tax and accounting rules require, usually six years. Website analytics data is kept in line with each provider's settings.
08Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use:
- Essential cookies, which Squarespace needs to run the site securely.
- Analytics cookies, which help us understand how visitors use the site.
- Marketing and identification, through Apollo.io visitor tracking, to understand which organisations visit.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works. Where a cookie banner is shown, you can choose which non-essential cookies to allow.
09Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, object to or restrict how we use it, withdraw consent, and ask for a copy of it in a portable format. Under the PDPA you may ask to access or correct your data and withdraw consent. To make a request, email kris@growthkompass.com. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK (ico.org.uk) or the Personal Data Protection Commission in Singapore (pdpc.gov.sg).
